Cory Garms
SENIOR SCIENTIST
Ph.D. (Remote Sensing of Forests) Oregon State University, 2020
M.S. (Forest Engineering) Louisiana State University, 2016
B.S. (Environmental Science) University of Texas at San Antonio, 2012
Dr. Garms joined Spectral Sciences, Inc. as a Senior Scientist in August 2023. Originally from the high plains of Northwest Texas, Dr. Garms’ passion for the natural world led him to conduct experiments on a wide breadth of subjects ranging from intertidal macroinvertebrate taxonomy following the deepwater horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to hurricane wind simulations in central Louisiana pine forests. For his doctoral research, he focused on utilizing unmanned aircraft systems (drones) with active and passive sensor configurations to assess tree structure and condition in the US Pacific Northwest. Since joining SSI he has added a unique blend of natural science, remote sensing, and engineering knowledge to the existing well-rounded research team. His personal research interests include natural resource monitoring, environmental systems modeling, open-source geoprocessing, GIS automation, machine learning, and all things drone-related.
