Dr. Lew joined Spectral Sciences, Inc. as a Senior Scientist in January 2024. His graduate research centered on materials property prediction and inverse design via the combination of experimentation, molecular dynamics simulation, and machine learning models. His work explored a variety of material systems, scales, and properties – from graphene fracture to biomineral hardness – and ultimately demonstrated an end-to-end workflow for creating material structures with desired mechanical properties, such as targeted compressive stiffnesses. He is broadly interested in how modern machine learning methods can augment traditional approaches for discovery and design.
