Chief Scientist

Ph.D. (Theoretical Chemistry) University of Idaho, 1997

B.S. (Chemistry) Eastern Washington University, 1991

Dr. Shroll is a Chief Scientist who joined SSI in August 2002 and has served as a technical fellow and principal investigator for many projects in the areas of computational chemistry, chemical kinetics, radiative transfer, and remote sensing. Dr. Shroll is the developer of the Sensor Analysis and Design toolBOX (SANDBOX) for electro-optical systems performance modeling.   The SANDBOX is used by SSI personnel for laboratory and field measurement support and for designing remote sensing prototypes, through sensor radiometric and statistical calibration, image processing,  wavefront error calculations, and detailed sensor modeling with performance trades.  He is working with industry and government customers to develop novel remote sensing methods in areas such as computational imaging, event based sensing, imaging polarimetry, spectral multiplexing, image enhancement machine learning algorithms, and modulation transfer theory and algorithms. Dr. Shroll assisted the Air Force in developing the Hypertemporal Imaging (HTI) space experiment including theory, analysis, field work, and scientific support during manufacturing and deployment.  His efforts included assisting in the calibration of the HTI imaging sensor and he is currently developing satellite cross calibration techniques.  Dr Shroll worked for years developing chemical kinetics models and software for AFOSR funded projects, which are included in the Extensible Computational Chemistry Environment (ECCE) software.
